Necromancer Skills
I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on the way to go with necros. Which do you think is the best: Blood Necros, Death Necros, or a mix?
I am thinking about going with blood necro, but frankly I do not think curse is even worth mentioning. I am getting the game on Thursday and im already lvl 9 from the early release, My main curiosity is about any reasons I should not stay full blood necro (with occasional points on soul reaping, and a few points on death once i get higher so my bone idol will work).

I went pure blood until I maxed it (with off points in reaping). Worked fine for me. Now I'm raising water magic.

If you learn to use blood magic effectively, in pve you can survive a lot of mob's without taking much damage.
So take that.

Glad to see I am not the only one who felt blood necro was good, it seems to keep me alive fairly well.

Well, I used to be blood/death but I realized if I was willing to sacrafice my bone monkies (as I call them) and the corpse drain? (dont remember the name of the spell where you steal hp from corpses) then I would have some really nice blood magic meaning good tanking.

I still haven't been very far north of the wall and am still basixally a novice but I'm leaning on the death with bloood thrown in.
Curses and hexes (so far) seem to be used to assist the group while death and blood appear to be killer skills.
Don't tell me if I'm wrong. I'll figure it out.
I kinda like being able to run up to a critter, poke it in the eye and say Die!!

Actually, I like Curses - I think the game mechanism they use is interesting, and stacked curses are quite effective against a tough opponent. My most common spell casting combo is Soul Barb followed by about three or four hexes. The main flaw with Curses is it's a little weak against groups of opponents. Mark of Pain is the main AE curse spell I have, and while it works great in combination with minions and party members, its AE range is limited and the damage is temporary shadow damage. By contrast death magic's minions and Deathly Swarm seem better suited for dealing with a small horde of bad guys, so right now I use a combo of Mark of Pain/minions/Deathly Swarm when faced with a cluster of monsters in PvE.
By the way, with Parasitic Bond and Insidious Parasite going, Curses offers great self-healing. Parasitic Bond in particular is very quick cast, 5 mana and you can plop it on an opponent any time right up until they die. The instant they die, you get a huge heal. It really feels very necro-ish, since every time an opponent dies you get lots of health and, with Soul Reaping, extra energy.
I'm really tempted to make Curses my primary skill, with Blood Magic and/or Death Magic secondaries and a touch of Soul Reaping. It seems like Curses isn't as popular, but I find it pretty fun, at least so far. (Mind you, I mainly play PvE, so I can't really comment how good or bad it is in PvP.)
Just a question of taste for me, I guess.

I use Blood and Curses, i think Necro primary is very strong. When played right with the right skills. Anyone liking Well of Blood? I certainly do. it saved a lot of my parties and the skill mark of pain is lovely 2 Gotta love Necro
